Border Policeman Cpl. Kfir
Ohayon

Apr 17, 2004 - Border Policeman Cpl. Kfir Ohayon, 20, of Eilat was killed, three others wounded when a Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up at the Erez Crossing. Hamas and Fatah claimed joint responsibility for the attack.
The explosion occurred at 4 pm on Saturday afternoon. The terrorist apparently came through the area with a group of Palestinian laborers who cross the terminal on a daily basis, underwent a security check, which failed to discover the bomb. Kfir Ohayon, who had been serving for less than two months at the Erez Crossing, was supposed to take the morning shift but had volunteered to switch with someone. Mortally wounded, he was evacuated to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
Kfir grew up in Eilat, the eldest son of Avi and Yael Oyahon. Before enlisting, he would train by running in the Eilat mountains. When he was told that he couldn't volunteer for an elite combat unit because of his asthma, he fought until his medical profile was raised, allowing him to serve in the Border Police. He had been posted at Erez after recently completing a non-commissioned officers' course.
Friends and family described Kfir as quiet and self-contained. He was devoted to his family, and had phoned on Friday evening especially to speak to his three youngest siblings. His brother Ro'i recently began his army service. After his military service, Kfir hoped to become a bodyguard in the Israel Security Service.
Border Policeman Cpl. Kfir Ohayon was buried in the military cemetery in Eilat. He is survived by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
