Miriam Levy

June 12, 2003 - Miriam Levy, 74, of Jerusalem was one of 17 people killed in a suicide bombing on bus No. 14A on Jaffa Road in the center of Jerusalem on June 11. She died of her wounds the following day.
At around 17:30, the bomber, dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, boarded Egged bus No. 14A at the Mahane Yehuda market, and a short while later, as the bus drove down Jaffa Road near the Davidka Square, detonated his bomb, wrecking the bus and killing 16 of its passengers. Over 100 people were wounded, including dozens of passersby. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
Miriam Levy's greatest love was art, and her drawings decorated every room in her home in Beit Hakerem, which also served as her studio. "Art gave her strength to live," said her daughter Yael. "Most of her time was spent in art classes and museums, and she even displayed her own work." Her grandson Yinon said that what he will remember most was his grandmother's desire to give and to help. Miriam lost her husband Haim many years ago.
Miriam Levy was buried in Jerusalem. She is survived by her two daughters, Yael and Anat, and five grandchildren.
