Malka Juliet Sultan

June 11, 2003 - Malka Juliet Sultan, 67, of Jerusalem was one of 17 people killed in a suicide bombing on bus No. 14A on Jaffa Road in the center of Jerusalem.
At around 17:30, the bomber, dressed as an ultra-Orthodox Jew, boarded Egged bus No. 14A at the Mahane Yehuda market, and a short while later, as the bus drove down Jaffa Road near the Davidka Square, detonated his bomb, wrecking the bus and killing 16 of its passengers. Over 100 people were wounded, including dozens of passersby. Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack.
Malka Sultan spent her last day with her granddaughter and her 3-week-old great-grandson Haim, who had come to visit her in Jerusalem. She accompanied them to the Central Bus Station and waited until they boarded the bus to Beit El. She was killed on her way home.
Malka immigrated to Israel with her husband Shalom 20 years ago from France, where she was a teacher. In recent years she volunteered at a soup kitchen in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Malka Sultan was buried in Beit El, where two of her children live. She is survived by her husband Shalom, two sons and a daughter, 20 grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
