Mar 4, 2001 - Shlomit Ziv, 58, of Netanya was one of three people killed in a suicide bombing in downtown Netanya.

Shlomit Ziv, a secretary of the teachers' union in Netanya, had met with her son Eitan at 8:00 in the morning to register her 3-year old grandson for pre-school. It was important to her that he have the best teacher. Twenty minutes later they parted.

Shortly before 9:00, Shlomit by chance met her uncle, Naftali Dean, at the corner of Herzl Street. They barely had a chance to say hello when the bomb exploded. Both were fatally wounded and died, despite efforts of the doctors to save them.

Shlomit Ziv is survived by her son Eitan. She lost her father, husband, and 2-year old daughter in a fatal car accident 29 years ago. After the tragedy, she dedicated herself to raising her son. Eitan said, "Today I lost my mother and my uncle, the two people closest to me."

She was laid to rest in Netanya alongside her daughter's grave.
