May 23, 2001 - Asher Iluz, 33, of Modi'in was killed outside Ariel en route to supervise a road paving in the area, when Palestinian gunmen opened fire in an ambush.

Asher Iluz, a building contractor, was killed in a cross-fire ambush on the road outside Ariel. He was in his car on his way to supervise a road paving between Ariel to Rehalim. Also in the car was his bodyguard Yitzhak Goldstein.

The shots came from the village, says Goldstein, who said they drove 300 meters under fire before Iluz was fatally shot in the head and Goldstein was wounded by shrapnel. Iluz was pronounced dead on arrival at Beilinson Hospital.
