Remains of the bus after suicide bombing in Haifa (Dec 2)
|
Fifteen people were killed when a suicide bomber detonated the bomb he was wearing after boarding a crowded bus near the center of Haifa's Hadar neighborhood. About 40 people were wounded in the attack, several of them seriously.
The bombing occurred shortly after noon, when an Egged No. 16 bus traveling from the Neveh Sha'anan district to Hadar was blown apart while passing through the mixed Jewish-Arab Halissa district.
The explosion came moments after the Hamas suicide bomber boarded the bus, paid the driver with a large bill, then blew himself up as the driver asked him to collect his change.
Hamas claimed responsibility for the Haifa blast, while Hizbullah's radio and television stations expressed support for the attacks.
